Ramelton’s own Swilly Rovers FC are the Donegal League Temple Domestic Appliance Division 1 league champions for ‘22/‘23!!
Swilly’s win means they will make a return to the Premier Division of the Donegal League next season as champions for the first time since they joined the newly formed Ulster Senior League back in the 1985/86 season.
Not everyone knows the story behind the first sip, but Football Special was originally born to help celebrate the Swilly Rovers wins in the 50s and 60s! The drink called “Football Cup” was designed for players to “fill the cup” with an exciting non-alcoholic beverage. The McDaid family were heavily involved with the team so it added extra sentiment to be able to develop a product to celebrate our local team’s successes. Later the name was changed to Football Special, but the unique taste stayed the same.
Sunday’s win was no different – the cup was filled with Football Special & enjoyed during the victory celebrations!
Massive congrats to Swilly on the win – let’s end the season undefeated!
